Challenge
The Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events (DCASE) asked TCG Collective to execute Chicago’s “official” annual Christmas tree lighting ceremony in Millennium Park (Michigan Ave. and Washington St). The TCG Collective team assisted with the set up for the 110th City of Chicago Christmas Tree, a 45-foot Colorado Blue Spruce tree with 50,000 lights and produce all of the programming, performances and special events that surrounded the lighting of the tree. The event would be broadcasted on television and via live stream.
Solution
The TCG Collective team set up all of the signage, staging, production and ensured a smooth run of show for the entire event. The much-awaited event was emceed by Irika Sargent and Joe Donlon of CBS 2 with multiple viewing locations with screens and concessions across the Park and a main stage on Washington St. at Michigan Ave., adjacent to the Chicago Cultural Center. The main stage featured wonderful holiday programming followed by the traditional Tree Lighting Ceremony and fireworks. Performers for the Tree Lighting ceremony included DJ TREW, Meagan McNeal, cast members from BOOP! The Betty Boop Musical, Chicago Dance Crash, Walt Whitman and the Soul Children of Chicago, Puerto Rican Arts Alliance's 2023 National Cuatro Festival with featured artists from Puerto Rico - Emma Colon Zayas, Maribel Delgado, Fabiola Mendez, with singer Celenia Sanchez Mata, and Santa and Mrs. Laura Lynn Claus.
